I had the opportunity recently to attend Traffic Survival School (TSS), as an observer. TSS is administered by the Department of Motor Vehicles and is “designed to reach individuals who have exhibited a disregard for traffic laws and the safety of others”.
Arizona Chapter National Safety Council is in contractual terms with Arizona MVD. Arizona Chapter National Safety Council is the administration of the AZ MVD TSS program. The following taken from azdot.gov website http://azdot.gov/mvd/driver-services/driving-schools “The licensure and administration of the Traffic Survival School (TSS) Program is now overseen by the Arizona Chapter National Safety Council (ACNSC). For a listing of schools, refer to your local telephone directory under “Schools-Driving” or “Driving Instruction,” or visit azstatetss.org. Thank you.” http://azdot.gov/mvd/driver-services/driving-schools
“Choice Theory” is the basis for the AZ MVD TSS curriculum of Arizona traffic survival schools. The AZ MVD TSS curriculum “Attitudinal Dynamics of Driving” student guide was developed by National Safety Council. The most important part of teaching traffic survival school is the incorporation of “choice theory” developed by world wide famous Psychiatrist Dr. William Glasser. Teaching people to understand “why” they are making the choices behind the wheel is the key to changing driver behavior. Arizona traffic survival school instructors must focus on and teach choice theory including a personal action plan “SAMRIC” by National Safety Council.
