Distracted Driving Awareness

Distracted Driving Crash

April is almost over but we need to continue to spread the message every day that being distracted and driving can be a deadly combination. Stay focused on the road. The ONLY way you are going to keep yourself out of harm’s way is to be able to see and react to others that are not paying attention. Put the phone down, scan, anticipate and plan – keep yourself and your loved ones safe.

Texting Ban for Teens

DrivingMBA’s Gilbert location was in the news recently when the teen texting bill made it through to the Governors office. Unfortunately, it is not a strong bill and it only prohibits teens from texting and driving during their permit phase and their first 6 months of driving. There needs to be a law that prohibits anyone of any age from texting and driving as it is dangerous and irresponsible. This bill is a baby step in a long battle with our legislature. A Deadly Head On-Collsion

Another head on-collision took the life of 3 young people this month. Two were students from Grand Canyon University. The wrong way driver was 21 years old and he hit two sisters who were 19 and 20 years old. All 3 were killed in the collision. The wrong way driver drove for 5 miles before crashing into the two girls. Below is a quote from DPS Spokesperson, Raul Garcia:

“The main thing we want everyone to do if you see this, when you confront this is call 911,” Garcia said. “Don’t assume that someone else is going to call 911. Make that call. Know where you are. And most importantly, avoid all distractions.”

“Have a plan in place,” he continued. “You’re gonna face hazards on the roadways … and one of those may very well be a wrong-way [driver]. So have a plan in place so that when you are confronted with that hazard, you’re not going to waste that split-second that could save your life. You’re gonna use it to get out of the way or take evasive action.”
